WHAT KEEPS YOU
AWAY FROM THE DENTIST?

FEAR

Are you afraid of going to the dentist? You’re not alone. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people are so apprehensive of the dentist that they wait until they have a dental emergency before finally making an appointment. A phobia like this can be caused by a bad experience in childhood or a previously painful visit to an old-fashioned dentist. The phobia can also form from “horror stories” told by friends and family members. Sometimes there may be no known reason for the fear. Dental fear is real!

The doctors at Dentistry With TLC understand a large percentage of our patients have a true fear of coming to the dentist. One of our greatest compliments is when a fearful patient tells us they had an enjoyable experience and they’ll be back. We hear it almost every day! Here are some of the ways we handle fear differently than most dental offices:

1

Please tell us.

The worst thing you can do when you have anxiety at the dental office is bottle it up inside. This usually feeds your fear or phobia. The best thing to do is to tell your doctor, hygienists or assistant that you are feeling nervous. We will explain what we are doing and why it is important. We will make sure you are comfortable and only proceed with your permission.

2

We offer the very best relaxation techniques.

Most offices offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide), and we do too. Laughing gas works well for some people, but not others. It has been around for over 100 years. There are better technologies now to improve relaxation. Dentistry With TLC is one of only a handful of dentists in the entire country to offer Alpha-Stim Relaxation Technology. Alpha-Stim is a technology that helps to create more alpha waves in your brain. Alpha waves are the waves that promote a feeling of calm and relaxation. This is achieved by placing small, comfortable clips on your earlobes that send alpha waves through your body. Many patients like to use Alpha-Stim technology along with laughing gas to achieve a very relaxed state. Best of all, these relaxation tools are inexpensive and can be used at every appointment.

We have great technology.

You don’t have to worry about outdated procedures that waste your time and increase your anxiety. Our office has great technology so you know you will be in and out with as little stress as possible. Some of our technology includes digital x-rays, a dental laser, digital impressions, a CAD-CAM computer that can make porcelain crowns in just 5 minutes and Alpha-Stim Relaxation.

You will be comfortable.

You should never experience pain during any dental procedure at Dentistry With TLC. This includes extractions, implants, root canals, etc. We use the best anesthetics in the most potent combinations to make you comfortable. But comfort goes beyond just the comfort of your teeth. We want your whole body to be comfortable. We know our building can sometimes feel a bit chilly. If you experience this, just tell us. We will bring you a freshly laundered, warm, fuzzy blanket. We can even make you a fresh cup of hot cocoa or coffee. When you are thirsty, our refrigerator is always stocked with cold water and soda. If you’re bored, we have a large selection of up-to-date magazines for men, women, teenagers and children.

Our office is relaxed.

Our waiting room feels more like a living room than a stuffy doctor’s office. You can enjoy a fresh cup of hot coffee or a cold soda while you wait for your appointment. You’ll be greeted by a friendly professional when you enter the building and that always helps to ease anxious nerves. Our doctors have friendly personalities that can help to ease your fears. We don’t lecture our patients about dental problems or make you feel bad. We’re happy you chose us and hope you come back again!
